Behind the Name
Willow in the Wind exemplifies how our bodies and minds are designed to be - strong, yet flexible, solid and balanced, yet able to move freely without breaking.
There are many proven health benefits of yoga - and not just for your body! Yoga balances emotion, improves circulation and reduces stress and anxiety - while teaching your body to balance, build strength and tone muscles. It's exercise and relaxation - all at the same time - and it can improve your life in many ways.
Postures are formed by consciously moving our bodies into particular forms upon exhales of breath, much like how the branches of willow trees respond to the sighs of wind. The core of the tree, like the core of our bodies, holds strong as the center of our being. Our connection to the earth provides balance and stability - hopefully no matter how hard the wind blows.
You may enter yoga as a physical experience, perhaps to unwind, move more freely or become strong, but you will soon realize how interconnected our bodies are with our thoughts and emotions. As you progress, you will experience greater ability to use your inner connectivity to allow your body and your mind to move in ways that are rejuvenating and beneficial to your physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Yoga is the Sanskrit word for Union. When your body, mind and emotions are connected and balanced, you are in the best place you can be for achieving your highest healthy potential! And when you extend your inner balance into the world around you, truly amazing things can happen!
The next time you see a willow tree blow in the wind, you're likely to notice that you have taken a breath with it and that you and the tree have been uplifted together. We can't help it because we are all connected to the amazing flow of energy that is Life. Pranayama, Prabhakara and Peace!
